Abstract
The objective of this study was to examine performance of the support media made of polypropylene in an fixed bed biofilm reactor for the treatment of synthetic sewage. After 18 h of seeding, biomass was attached on the surface of support media. Bioflm was formed within 2~3 days, but stable biofilm was abtained about 20 days. When organic loading rate was increased from 61.4 g BOD_5/§³day to 102.9 g BOD_5/§³day, the effluent BOD_5 and the biomass concentration was increased from 5.7 mg/§¤ to 9.7 mg/§¤ and from 50.1 g biomass/§³ to 98.7 g biomass/§³, respectively. At steady state effluent suspended solid was maintained below 2 mg/§¤. The surface area of support media for desire effluent for a given conditions was expressed as a model equation below.
